Q&A: How to Deal with Panic Attacks?

Question by Jelly Belly: How to Deal with Panic Attacks?
I am a sophomore in High School and I’ve been having panic attacks. Last week I suddenly was shaking, couldn’t breathe, had to go to the bathroom, and dizzy. It was the first time that happened to me and I was really scared. I thought it was never going to happen again but on Monday I ran out of class and to the bathroom due to one and Tuesday I also experienced a panic attack and run to the bathroom again. Today I had two. They seem to be getting worse as time goes on. I’ve just told my dad about it today and only one of my friends knows about the attacks. What I need to know is:
1. how can I deal with an attack when it happens again?
2. How should I tell my teachers so I can leave the class when they happen?
3. Where should I go during an attack?

Night time panic attacks, anyone else have these? How do you deal with them?

Question by AIM+e plus a Melody due 02/20/10: Night time panic attacks, anyone else have these? How do you deal with them?
I’m prone to having panic attacks, but I’m not on any meds for it as of now. I did get prescribed zoloft, but I’m still deciding if I want to take it or not. Anyways, my panic attacks, when I have them, are mostly during the day, but last night I had a horrible night-time panic attack. Every time I would get close to falling asleep, I would jump up and my heart would be racing, I felt like I couldn’t breathe and it was horrible, because I wound up not going to bed until 1am….How do you deal with panic attacks at night?…I’ve only had a few of them at night, but I can’t sleep when I have them, I feel like if I go to sleep I won’t wake up and even when I force my body to relax and just lay there, my mind is still in panic mode and it won’t let me rest…its like as calm as my body could be, my mind was forcing me to forcefully wake up every tiem I drifted off to sleep. How do you deal with them at night?

Well, if i were you, i would take meds. Im not really sure what causes these, but you should talk to a doctor about it. If your really not getting alot of sleep, then take the meds.

Hope it gets better!

Panic attacks!Should I stay home or go?

Question by Mommy of 5 cupcakes: Panic attacks!Should I stay home or go?
I have been having some pretty severe panic attacks when I am alone at night. I get chest pains, dizziness etc. My husband works nights and when he leaves I usually get them. I have been going over his moms house to spend the night everynight when he works to avoid them from happening. Tonight I feel ok…FOR NOW! but my husband is still here, he leaves for work at 11pm. Should I stay home and deal with panic attacks IF i get them tonight or to be on the safe side should I have him drop me at his mothers house tonight? What would YOU do?

Best answer:

Answer by Eddie
I would probably get dropped off at his mother’s house. More importantly, if you’re not getting help for your panic attacks please find a mental health professional. Panic attacks are scary ass things D:

Does anyone know any specific medication for panic attacks?

Question by Ted: Does anyone know any specific medication for panic attacks?
I’ve always had great anxiety, but lately I’ve been dealing with almost daily panic attacks. They’re very scary and have begun to prevent me from doing things. I’m going on a trip on Friday and am very worried about it.

Does anyone know any specific medication for panic attacks? I just wish I had something I could take when I’m having one that would help. I almost feel like that if I just knew I had something to take the panic attacks would become less likely. Thanks for the help.

Answer by Janine N
I have been suffering from panic attacks (panic/anxiety disorder) or nearly seven years. To be honest with you, the medication I took was paxil as well as Zoloft. When one medication didn’t work, they put me on the other.

They gave those medications to prevent the attack and feel more in control, though, i’m not sure if there is an over the counter drug you can take to make you ease your panic attacks.

If possible, you can always try therapy for your panic attacks. It really helps you out a lot if you’re committed to it. Good luck with your trip on Friday.

Ask Misty: Boy Suffers from Agoraphobia and Panic attacks

Dear Misty, I’m a twenty year old gay boy living in Vancouver BC, I suffer from OCD and panic attacks among other phobias since I was nine years old. On my birthday (Aug 1) the three only friends I had decided to call me on the day of my birthday to tell me they would not be coming over because they didn’t want to be friends anymore because of my anxiety problems. I guessed they found it to much to deal with. Now my question is, since my birthday, I have been inside my house everyday and devolved social anxiety, I’m scared to leave my house, and I don’t have friends to talk to, or help me leave. I feel lost, confused, and frustrated. I’m tired of living with anxiety, it has ruined my life. How can I make new friends when I’m scared of having a panic attack out in public? asked by TheCircus This is OBVIOUSLY a VERY REAL and DIFFICULT question to answer… Witness as I try my best in this VLOG… but I will also repeat myself here in saying that I DO BELIEVE you need to seek a therapist and start to iron out the wrinkles that plague you. If anything… it just helps to talk about things that bother you :)

Dealing with Anxiety and Panic Attacks

panicaway-today.blogspot.com Most of the people I deal with have been struggling with anxiety disorders for many years and have usually exhausted themselves looking for a solution in every book, course, or treatment program out there. By the time they get to me, they are very skeptical (as is natural) and have little faith in ever getting rid of their condition.

How to deal with Panic Attacks, Naturally?

Question by Anabel: How to deal with Panic Attacks, Naturally?
Recently I had a Panic Attack. I felt jittery, my heart was racing, I felt out of breath. I was scared, I was scared I would end up in an ambulance on my way to the hospital. I was scared that I would need an ambulance because my Dad is not working and there is no money income and we have no health insurance. That’s why I started worrying while I was having the panic attack. But before the Panic Attack my mom has a bad cough and we were at my brothers house she started coughing really bad like she was choking. But then she got better, but we went outside and started talking how after the death of a family friend i started worrying a lot. Then that’s when the Panic Attack started. We were sitting in the garage, and i felt jittery, out of breath, scared. My soon to be niece was with us, and the garage door was open and she was playing by herself in the front lawn. I got up from were me and my mom were sitting started walking with my hands on my head. She was playing Frisbee by herself and I told her “Let’s play” so I could get distracted. But she was to slow, and i felt frustrated, like throwing up. So I just started running in the front lawn a few laps. I got tired and threw myself on the floor, while I was running I was praying, it helped. But I threw myself out the grass, breathing like how you breath after you run. My mom said come on lets go walk. So all three of us walked around the block, still praying, and I calmed down. Tahnk God. That was my first mild Panic Attack. I had had little little panic attacks but were very like ignorable. So my question is in the future, if i got any more panic attacks, (God Forbid) how can I deal with it without going to the hospital. Like I said we have no money income. So my mom and dad cant afford to send me to a phycoligist. So how can I calm down from panic attacks with out going to the hospital? Please Help. Thank You.

By the way am 14.
