There are a few different medications used to treat panic attacks. Benzodiazepines are the most frequently prescribed, drugs like Xanax and Clonopin. Benzodiazepines are fast-acting mild tranquilizers that release GABA in the brain, which slows down your sympathetic nervous system and relieves the panic. The problem with benzodiazepines is that they are habit-forming, and they lose their potency after extended use. Sometimes SSRI and SNRI drugs (Zoloft, Lexapro, Cymbalta, etc.) are prescribed for general anxiety with panic symptoms.
I have been suffering from panic disorder with agoraphobia for years, and I have found that the most effective treatment is not medication, but cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). During CBT, a therapist will help you evaluate your thoughts (cognitive) and your actions (behavioral) and by changing your thoughts, change your actions, and stop the panic before it starts. Panic disorder is NOT just a “chemical imbalance” in the brain like some doctors write it off to be – it is an entire mental process. By changing your mental process, you can end the panic for good.

i was prescribed multiple medications, but all of them made me really dizzy. but other than that, they helped.
one i took is called gabapentin.
I dont use medication for panic disorder. I use vitamin b8 (Inositol). Look up inositol and panic disorder on google and you will see it is very effective, non drug and side effect free.
